Optimizing DICOM viewer performance (Review Mode)

Consider the following points should image viewing feel slightly delayed.

Inside the DICOM viewer (Review Mode)

  • Ensure only one DICOM viewer browser tab is used.
    Having multiple viewer tabs open may result in an error and is not supported.
  • Ensure the study series contains more than one image and is not a secondary capture.

Preload the series or Preload the full study.

  • Preloading will download the images temporarily to your computer browser memory. The images are automatically deleted when the viewer tab is closed.
  • Preloading can take seconds or up to a minute depending on your network speed, study size, and computer hardware specifications.
  • To preload, click the cloud symbol next to the series or full study you want to load. 

DICOM images contain a lot of additional data and a study file size and preload time can vary considerably. If preloading many big cases frequently consider quitting your web browser periodically to free up resources.

Internet speed and other programs

  • Ensure an internet connection of at least 70 Mbps.

  • For best performance use Google Chrome web browser.
Chrome is known for its speed and efficiency, and it employs various techniques like tab suspension to minimize memory impact.
  • Close all other open programs to maximize computer resources.
  • Consider testing speed performance also using 4G or 5G networks.

Accessing CMRAD cases from within a hospital network or via a VPN?

  • Accessing a VPN or via a hospital network may affect performance.

Service quality and security configurations set by an institution for its available network infrastructure may impact performance and internet speed. Consider switching to a personal computer and using a personal internet connection if performance is delayed in this scenario.
